Press Release Body: The launch of Openspace, The Jindal Foundation for Development
marks the celebration of enjoying the vast vistas of free space in the realm of
creativity and intellect. Shallu Jindal founder of Openspace and an accomplished
Kuchipudi dancer has started the foundation with the idea of promoting art, culture,
sports and an entire new intellectual movement in India -- by creating opportunities
for like-minded people to get together and engage in creative exercises from time to
time.
Shallu invited film-maker Simone Ahuja to participate in the launch event of the new
foundation, reinforcing the vision of the foundation to promote young talent. On
this occasion Shallu Jindal, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Neelam Rudy, Saba Ali, Sudhir
Tailing and many others were also present there.
Says Jindal, \"When Simone approached me with the idea of screening the film in
Delhi, I was very excited about the subject that she was dealing with. Her entire
approach is new and youthful. The aim of my foundation will also be to give
newcomers such as Simone a platform to be seen and heard. I am very happy to launch
my foundation with the screening of her films.\"
Simone Ahuja presents vignettes from her documentaries titled \"Indique: Untold
stories of contemporary India\" touching upon subjects such as ecotourism in India,
luxury travel, ayurvedic spas, India\'s burgeoning wine industry and the Indian
National Rugby Team. The series is airing nationally in the US this year, on
international airlines, and will be broadcast in India on Zee TV shortly. Providing
a unique palette of images from the subcontinent, Indique brings global audiences a
slice of today\'s India - one that marries the traditional with the contemporary. The
Indique series provides a unique platform to discuss images of India in global media
- how are they changing and why are they important?
The screening of the film clips are followed by a panel discussion where luminaries
from different fields share their personal experiences. Panelists dicuss their
respective roles in contributing towards a strong and contemporary image of brand
India. Sachin Pilot shares his political experience, polo player Angad Kalan talks
about the new image for India that polo has created overseas, actor Chitrangda
provides her opinion on global cinema, designer Suneet Varma brings in the fashion
perspective and industrialist and MP Naveen Jindal shares his thoughts on the
subject in a gripping panel discussion moderated by PR Guru Dilip Cherian.
Adds Jindal, \"We\'ve been lucky to have such a varied panel and to get a spectrum of
views to be able to gauge the motley images that our country has created in global
media. Right from films, sports, politics industry and fashion, the way India is
being perceived by the world has assumed an all-new dimension. Our panelists present
these different images of India in their own unique way -- all arising out of a sum
total of their experiences in building brand India as well as assimilating them in
their own consciousness through their multifarious inter-faces.\"
Minneapolis native Simone Ahuja, a second generation Indian-American, who also
happens to be a qualified dentist, had noticed tremendous changes in the place that
her parents were raised - astoundingly different from the place she had visited as a
child. At its center she found rapidly evolving economic, social and cultural
phenomena. These changes, along with compelling personal stories inspired her to
take a closer look at the country whose exponential growth curve is creating
headlines around the world. \"Indique was a means of providing a counterbalance to
often monolithic portrayals of the subcontinent in global media\", says Ahuja.
